What is a dedicated server?

A dedicated server is a computer(server) that only runs one type of server software. The server is usualy constructed or pre-configured to the customers specifications.

Dedicated servers can be used for one large site or they can be used by web hosting providers to provide shared web hosting, or reseller web hosting accounts.

If you have a single large website that generates high traffic, or uses a lot of resources you may be in the need of a dedicated server.
